Hi All,

I am a developer and an absolute noob at both AE and Premiere. Am
hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

A friend who uses Premiere for his usual editing jobs asked me if I
can write a custom wizard in Premiere for very repetitious editing
jobs that he does daily. From what I have read in the SDK's, the
closest to actual automation from a development perspective that you
can get is with AE. Plugins in Premiere wont give the kind of
capability required for the job. I can convince him to switch to AE if
the custom wizard functionality can make his life easier. So my
question is, apart from how the workflow is different between the two
and which one suits what, can AE in principle, do everything that
Premiere can do?

I found a link which says it can. http://www.mediacollege.com/adobe/compare/aftereffects-vs-premiere.html
But thats the only place i read that so I want to be certain its
possible before wasting time tinkering with the SDK's.

Hope someone out there can help me out. If this is not the right place
to post this, please point me to the right group.

Many thanks in advance,
Nishant

I hope 6 months is an OK time frame for answering your question :-)

Your referenced site is basically correct:

€ After Effects is better at working with shorter timelines and
high-demand effects.
€ Premiere Pro is better at working with general editing projects,
especially long or complex edits.

Premiere Pro is like a flatbed film and audio editor, After Effects is
like an animation stand. That is, Premiere is primarily for cutting
together video and audio footage for the final product.

After Effects is a special-effects tool. Over the years of development
the two products have started to share functionality, but the two were
originally designed for these purposes.

It may be that the editing needed can be done in AE and then rendered
and used in Premiere for the full project editing -- I switch back and
forth between Photoshop, AE, Premiere, and Amadeus (audio editor),
depending on what needs to be done.

Hope this helps, however belated.

he might use both dynamic link is a great feature i know that premiere
offer limited effect and preset than after effect but it is a hell of
job to do a whole film in after effect so the main cutting and
sequence is in premiere and the effects coloring and titling is in
after effect without having to render every thing just use dynamic
link offered by the master collection
